Hi folks! I see a lot of names I recognize. Thanks for having another board to ask things on. I won't sell any of my "babies", but instead I am always seeking more of them. I am in East Texas, behind the "Pine Curtain".
I currently have a Victor VV-XVI, and a very nice Amberola 30. They rock, and entertain my guests greatly.
Just missed a Columbia Grafonola yesterday for $120, but it appears to have had some "issues". Damned pot metal parts. Am running out of space to put more of them, even in this giant old B&B, so it is ok. Would still love to find a nice outside horn machine, here in the wild.
Guess I have the *bug bite* to collect these unwieldy old time machines.
Nice to be here!
*waves to all*

Welcome to the Board, Lilimarlene!! Your little Amberola 30 is a great sounding machine and has plenty of OOMF!

Where are you in the PNW? What is the machine? Can you take a photo and place it up?
Welcome!

Hi Lili, glad to see you here on the Edison Board! I remember when you first got your Amberola 30 and I also recall the large lot of cylinders that you won at that time. Have you been adding to your collection of Blue Amberols?
Rocky

Hi guys... I just joined tonight after seeing the link on the OTVMMB. This is strange... another board that's the same style, with many of the same people, only its a different color, and I can only talk about Edison phonographs. It seems there is already a "Shane" on this board, so I am now Shane1.

I am getting kind of tired of the OTVMMB (a.k.a. the EDAEOTSMB (Endless Discussions About Ebay and Off-Topic Stuff Message Board)), so here I am. ;D From what I've seen, it looks like there have been some pretty good posts so far. Keep it up! By the way, Shane seems to be a very common name among phonograph collectors. I don't know why.

Welcome aboard Phil!!! I was wondering when you were going to "jump the fence," especially where you are more Edison inclined.

Glad to see you on the Edison Board, Phil. You've mentioned brown wax cylinders that you've recently acquired. How do you play them? Rocky

Thanks Guys.
Rocky, I have three playable brown wax cylinders. I think they date sometime between 1898 and 1902. I just play them on my Standard with a Model C reproducer. I turn the speed control thrumbscrew to slow the machine down to as close to 120 rpm as possible. On my Standard D, it is a royal pain because the speed control is below the bed plate.
The brown wax cylinders don't sound as loud as Gold Moulded black wax cylinders, but some have decent volume through the morning glory horn.
