I have an Amberola VIII serial number 7738, there does not seem to be much information around on this particular model. Is this model compatible with any of the other Amberolas??

I think you should also know I'd highly reccommend against much running time on your Amberola A-VI. They had quite a problem with gear wear on that motor due to desgn problems. They tried different types of gears. Bronze, brass, steal, aluminum, etc., but, none held up. I know of no one who reproduces those gears. Feel lucky you have a machine which still works. They are rare, and, even rarer in playing condition. Bill Cahill

I have an Amberola VIII serial number 7738, there does not seem to be much information around on this particular model. Is this model compatible with any of the other Amberolas?? Peter Hi Peter, Your Amberola VIII came in two styles with yours being the first model. Your machine shares the motor from the Amberola VI, models B & C, and is dependent upon whether you have the STANDARD or FIRESIDE motor. The carriage, horn, Reproducer, and traveling arms are the same but the cabinet is unique to that machine. The top plate of the Amberola VI-C is different then your VIII as yours has the separate grille in the front and the VI-C had it as part of the casting but the motors are the same. Bill

Hi Bill Thanks for the informative reply. I am new to this, my father gave me the Amberola VIII, the cabinet and trim is in very good condition for its age, the governor needs attention when I get time. Regards Peter

Hi Peter,
You're most welcome and BTW, your dad gave you a neat machine that is seldom encountered, at least here in the U.S. As far as the broken spring, do you have access to vernier calipers or a micrometer? If so, you can measure the diameter and let me know what it is and I can send you a replacement. It looks like you have some rust on the governor shaft so you might want to remove it and disassemble it (but let the spring wind down first!) and give it a good cleaning with either steel wool or scotch-brite to remove the rust and polish it up. I think one end of the spring was fitted into a blind hole on the middle collar and the other end was laid in a groove and the lips peened over on the other collar to hold it tight.
