I recently bought a HOME Mod. E from the widow of a man that had purchased this back in the 50s. She said he was never really able to get it to play well from what she remembers, and had written to the Edison factory for parts and she says he did receive a reply saying that parts were unfortunately no longer available. (Surprise!) The usual suspect was the @$#% pot metal bearing which I replaced, although the mandrel did turn a bit which made it easier to remove the mandrel assembly. Someone in the past also "re-shellacked" the entire cabinet, including the bedplate! The horn, oddly enough, was left alone and has a very nice decal remaining. I have debated stripping down the cabinet because the script decal is perfect on the front and am also leery of removing the shellac from the bedplate as the blue & gold pin-striping may suffer. The dealer ID plate is interesting as it was a fairly local (Haverhill, Mass) address. On a lark, we drove down to the location this past weekend, but alas, it is now a playground and some type of monument where it once stood.

That is one nice machine Bill. I like the horn. I tried to buy a wood horn bell all winter on ebay I either missed see one come up or there were none. I remember one but it was missing panel and needed to be reglued and finished. So of coarse you know me I built one to look wood till I get one.

Thanks, Kevan. How did you get the wood-grain effect on the panels? Was this with a graining kit or a type of peel and stick? It looks pretty slick.

It is a vinyl peel and stick with a wood grain pattern. I also added a thin layer of glue. It took forever!! but you will not find any air bubbles and it takes some strength to peel it off again.
