I recently bought a set of 20 cylinders. It contained 4 Pathe cylinders. My question is can i play pathe black wax cylinders with an Edison model C reproducer? Or is the wax of the Pathe cylinders too soft and should i play it on a floating reproducer machine, like a Columbia or Pathe?

Dear Timo,
This is always a difficult question.
Moulded Pathe cylinders, both "Diamond" and "Quality B Superior" should be OK to play on an Edison Model C Reproducer, with the sapphire in good condition of course and I have done so for many years. That being said, as it is increasing difficult to find Pathe cylinders in good condition or indeed in any condition other than "horrible", I do tend now to prefer to play mine on a Pathe machine with a floating reproducer, just to be on the safe side.
