Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the board so I wanted to introduce myself and ask a question. My name is Bill and I live in south Alabama. I have a H 19 Diamond Disc player (also a Sonora and a Vocalion phonograph). I'm currently logging my Diamond Discs (about 60 at the moment) and have a question about the matrix number. I know that the number refers to the song and the letter to the take. What do the next two numbers refer to. It seems I've read it on line somewhere but can't seem to find it.
Thanks, Bill

Welcome Bill!
I'm sure others will have greater insight on this, but I've always been under the impression that the first number after the "take" letter is the master mould number and the last number is the stamper number. I picture the work flow like this:
1. Original Wax Recording (incised positive) 2. Metal "Mother" (negative of Wax) 3. Metal Master Mould (incised positive impression of Mother - can be many from same Mother) 4. Metal Stamper (negative of Master - can be many from same Master) 5. Final Record (incised positive - hopefully!)
Again, I'm sure others will have better insight and proper nomenclature. Again, welcome!
- Martin

Thanks Martin. I assumed that the last two numbers represented steps in the process as you outline, I just wasn't sure. Thanks for the welcome. Bill
