Sorry, just realized that this should have been posted in the "Other Brands" forum.
Hi Folks.
My wife just gifted me with a very nice Columbia Type B cylinder player (thank you wife). We already own a Edison Diamond Disc and a couple of early phonograph but I have no experience with cylinder players. The player came with several Edison Gold Moulded cylinders, a few Columbia Indestructibles and one Edison Blue Amberol. My first question -- which cylinders can I play with this machine and which one can I not play? Also, are there different reproducers for playing different types of cylinders or just a standard reproducer?
Thanks in advance, Bill

The B plays only 2 minute cylinders, so the Blue Amberol is out. If the Indestructibles are 2 minute, they're OK; if they have a "4M" prefix, they're not.
There are different types of reproducers for different cylinders: 2 minute reproducers will have a larger stylus than those intended for 4 minute cylinders. There were also dual-purpose reproducers: Edison made the K, O, and S models, which have two styli; Columbia and U.S. Phonograph made a "combination" reproducer with a single, intermediately sized stylus - this was meant to be used on celluloid cylinders only, as it would damage wax cylinders.
Finally, there's the Edison Diamond reproducers: These should ONLY be used on 4 minute celluloid records: Blue Amberols, Indestructibles and U.S. Everlastings.
