Just bought a new black etched lable DD. "The Preacher & the Bear" on side R and on side L "a Coon 'possum Hunt" . Disc is in fairly good shape, no big chips, however, there appears to be some whit marks like stains. It does not affect the play too much, but it does sound scratchy. Do the early DD suffer the same fate as the early black Amberiol cylinders?
The catalog number or seires # is 50520
I'm still looking for the paper lable DD's.

Paul, It may be dust or a little mold, the disc was probably stored in a damp cellar for a while. Try giving it a wipe with a cloth lightly dampened with 90% rubbing alcohol.
Regards, J.

I have 2 DDs that have white marks on them. It almost looks like salt spray, like your car gets at the beach. I've been trying for years to remove it, and tried all sorts of cleaning solutions to remove them. So far no luck. If yours are the same as these, you might just be stuck with the marks as I think I am.

I'll give that a try J. I'll have to buy some, since I only have 70%.

Paul, If you have the 70-whatever% that should be fine. I did buy the 91%, but I think most folks use whatever, just don't soak the cloth.
Regards, J.

Paul, I gues you got what Shane's got. Well if it isn't affecting play, I guess it's alright. I wouldn't worry about it. Regards, J.

As John says, if it dosen't affect play, "fageddabodit." As an addenda, 50520 was released in mid 1919 and was not cut-out, ie was pressed until the bitter end in 1929 so you should have no probs finding it on paper. I may have it here as a dupe, so I'll check. Bill

Thanks Bill!
There is one thing I have noticed with some of my discs. On the edge, some of the discs look white, and others black, Also some are a bit thicker then others, but not by much.

Just bought two more very nice DD's today, both for $5.00 a piece.
52128: My Blue Heaven and The Calinda
51279: I'll Be here When You Come Back and When You Love
I really love the Fox Trot's. I am also looking for more ragtime as well, and any other unusal disc's, simmilar to the "Let us Not Forget" disc.

When I owned my first Edsion many years ago the Calinda was one of my favorite fox trots. But then so many Edison recordings have full and rather destinctive sound. Brunswick recordings come the next closest to that full twenties sound to my ear.

The other is 52192(3/28) and is a non fox-trot version. Bill
