Just acquired a "new" s 19 with a broken winding spring. I would like to find a new spring and information on how to replace it

YouTube has plenty of videos on the subject, just be careful.

If you have never serviced a mainspring before, I suggest you leave it to a professional: Edison DD springs are a bit of a handful for the beginner.
You might check the "Links" section, both here and on the Talking Machine Forum: you can find a good supplier/repairman in your general area. Most will replace a mainspring for a reasonable price.

First I need to assess. I need to see the process to see if I have the appropriate tools for the job. Then proceed from there, I'm not impatience, I got time on my side for once.

Ok, watched the video, motorcycle transmissions are a little more complicated, so it's do-able. Is there a step by step instructions on the brake down on how to get into the machine, or am I on my own?

It's fairly complicated. You'll want to disconnect the horn asembly, then(after removing the crank) remove the trim to expose the motorbord mounts. Make sure the spring is completely wound down, and the unit should lift out.

The turn table does rotate and it doesn't crank up so I'm pretty sure that the spring is wound down. To remove the turn table the reprodcer must be removed, so that's good. The spring that holds the gear lock so the crank can be unscrewed was unattached so I figured that out. Any trick on disconnecting the horn assembly?

On the shaft that the horn pivots on there is a flat metal spring. Right under the spring you'll see a collar held by one screw. Loosen the screw and wiggle it loose from the shaft. Behind that you'll find the "flat" gear that advances the horn/tone arm (via a short worm gear) it's held by a pin once removed the gear will slide off. Bellow the spring there should be another "collar" with two square headed screws. Remove the screws, and with some patience and wiggle, the arm that raises the horn/tone arm will come free from the rest of the shaft. Rest horn to one side and your free. Hope this helps.

Forgot about the mute ball cable. Remove that. (it mounts to the under side of the motor bored)

That should help. Will get to it as soon as I finish moving furniture.

The turn table does rotate and it doesn't crank up so I'm pretty sure that the spring is wound down. Do you mean that the spring won't wind up? In that case, it has either come unhooked from the central shaft (which is fairly easy to remedy), or the mainspring is broken near the center (which will require replacing the mainspring). BillS
