Don't know why I am doing this here, but less traffic I guess.. Probably were all bidding against each other anyway.. But I am still haveing a problem understanding how so many what on other machines would be rather common records bring very inflated prices. Not talking electrical recordings either.. It just seems some are totally obsessed with purchaseing nearly anything edison that the prices are just crazy.. Well I am probably guilty too, you can't hardly help your self when everyone else around you is going nuts...
But darn, I did forget to bid on the lot os 6 or 7 that only went for 1.99 yesterday.. Still a bargain around but sure few.. I think what really surprised me is how in regular 78s the rare blues or country stuff will fetch a high price, but common violin, or corny songs on edison become rare gems it seems.. Sort of takes the fun out of it for me..

Larry,
Yes there does seem to be a certain weird disconnect with anything Edison, esp. DD's. That was one of the reasons I initially hesitated getting into Edison Diamond Discs. Then I hesitated jumping into the cylinder game because the BA's are also dearer that a standard 78. As you noted something which would be considered rather prosaic on shellac is suddenly sought after on Condesite. ;D. I would guess that it has to do with relative rarity as well as the name Edison itself. Also there is the fact that many collectors consider the quality of Edison's products to be superior aurally to any of it's contemporaries.
Regards, J.

I have 33 DD's, never paid more then $10.00 for one. Mostly beteween $2.00 & $7.00. I even own a few that people go nuts over on ebay. For example: "Edsion's "let Us not forget" Which people, are killing each other for on ebay. The some thing goes for cylinders, I may only have three. However, I make up for it buying Peter Dilg's "Wizzard Cylinders" which I have two of. It may cost more, but for me it's better in the long run. For one thing they last longer, and I don't have to get into a bidding war on ebay. I have only bought DD's off of ebay once, and I had a 50/50 chance of finding a few decent ones. Most of the DD's I own, came from antique malls. For me, it's easier to look at a DD up close, as opposed to a photo on ebay. At least I know, what I am spending my money on.

Just bought two more DD's at $2.50 a peice. Haven't played them yet, as of right now I am house sitting, for my parents, while they are on vacation.
