Gents,
I brought my Brunnie 101 into work last night to spin a few at the store. Had a great time and the customers enjoyed it. ( I do have to stuff a woolen hat down the throat of the horn to keep the volume down so we can still hear the bets. ;D )
Well, at the end of the night it started making a regular "ting" noise? It only happens with the slight weight of the reproducer or my hand lightly slipping along the rotating turntable. I'm going to have to open 'er up this coming week to eyeball the works, something I should have done when I got it. Any ideas what I should be looking for?
Regards, J.

John,
I wonder if your turn table is slightly out of level and is hitting the brake mechanism(or something else) at a low spot. This could be caused by a slightly bent shaft or a warped TT.

It may well be the turntable slightly loose on the center spindle and as the loose part comes around to be pressed down by the weight of the reproducer it may move slightly against the shaft making the "ting" noise.

Gents,
One of the negatives of the Brunnswick 101 is there is no pin or clip to hold the TT on the spindle. It had popped off in transit yesterday. SO it may be something that simple. I'll let you know.
Thanks.
Regards, J.

If it is playing that loud are you using a soft tone needle.. my 101 only needs that small needle for most records. I had a similar pinging on the new edison, and it was the turntable with a slight warp hitting the break mechanism as someone already said. Might be somethng else but you might want to check that. The other thing your right about is that darn turntable doesn't appear to have a locking part to hold it in place? Also I don't know if yours has it but the record holder wants to slip out of the holder and fall on the turn table when I go to close it, rather annoying. You never did mention if it feels stiff to wind. Mine is one of the worst winding I have. Seems fully tight when its not. I had it looked at but they couldn't find any problem and said that the way it is. but I wondered about others?

Larry, Mine winds fairly easily. I'm missing the record storage compartment. I understand there are at least three different incarnations of the 101. I have no idea what one mine is or what the record compartment should look like. Here are my edited copies of the original E-Bay listing photos. I can't find any of my newer ones right now. It's got a nice sound even though it needs a diaphragm. It's not as loud an my VV-50. The negatives are, besides missing records storage, no clip for turntable or tonearm and I don't like machines with the handle set on the tall, if you know what I mean. Not all of us can be 6' tall ..... Regards, J.

My record container is a removeable box like affair that keeps the records in place. It sits behind those clips at the bottom of the lid and then the leather snaps at the top are supposed to hold it in place, but it always falls out.. Mine has a drop down door. I like the swinging doors better as it allows some volume control short of shuting the door. I will have to figure out how to post photos on these other sites and see if I can get a shot of mine, visually it looks about like new, the ones I have seen at sales here in the country are usually basket cases.
