I am trying to get a handle on a phonograph and cyliders I have inherited. I have ordered Reiss's book suggested by Matt. Matt also suggested that I post photos and someone might help me with preliminary information. Some cylinders are in boxes that say Edison Emberol on blue labels, some with brown labels and some without boxes. These cyliders are in various shades of blue, some black. The phono isn't great shape but seems to work. Some cyliders are in good condition, others have some irregularities on the outer edge of the ring. i102.photobucket.com/albums/m111/barryws/3c52f1b7.jpg [/img]

Looks like an Amberola 30 to me. Missing the grille, and in need of some cosmetic surgery.....

Thank you Matt. I now have Reiss's book and it does look like the picture on page 136, a table-top Amberola. Is there any source that would help me identify the rarity (or lack thereof) of the cylinders? I see a big range on eBay from no bids to soem that are apparently rare and have a lot of bids. There is a book I see on Amazon that lists all the cylinders but I don't think that would help.

List what you have here, and perhaps we can help identify any that might be more valuable than others. I don't know of a source that identifies values of specific cylinders. Anyone?

Thanks again Matt. You have been very helpful. Here is a list. I would also appreciate any help in how to describe damage. Many of these have some irregularaties on the edges of the rings on the inside, especially the lower ring. The surfaces look OK. #5226 was recorded in Aug of 1926 and was released in Oct.'26. This is probably the most collectable one in this grouping, as it is a late BA and many collectors go ga-ga over these, regardless of content. As this is a Fox-Trot, it makes it a bit more interesting. I have it on DD and it's a snappy number! As for it's worth, it would go on Ebay for what ever the fools with deep pockets are willing to pay. I just watched a 'Come Josephine in My Flying Machine" (#1949) go for $106.49!!!! In my mind, absolutely rediculous. But as it was once said......"A fool and his money are soon parted." The rest can go from a few $$$ and up to perhaps the $10-15 range. Bill
