I have this cylinder by Edna Bailey, and am wondering if she- or anyone else-recorded any other "bed-time" story's for Edison? Mine is from master mould #7, which kind of surprised me, as I wouldn't have thought this would have been a big seller. Does anyone know when it was recorded, and for how long it was in the catalogues?

Shane, the record was recorded in 1915. I don't know how long it remained available, but it is listed in the November 1920 Blue Amberol catalog.....obviously a successful record. Also, there are two other records by Edna Bailey at the on-line cylinder site.

Thanks Rocky. I suppose Edison had to jump on the bandwagon and offer some kids titles. I guess by 1915,kids records were up and running, and never looked back.Until recently anyway- even young kids seem to be more interested in rap n stuff, than a good old fashioned fairy tale. Cylinders were never considered cheap originally, so I wonder if their success may have been due to being looked at as a treat for kids missing their fathers who were away at war. Then again, it might have been because the old victorian idea of "children being seen and not heard" was out, and including kids as part of a healthy family structure stretched as far as buying expensive recordings to entertain the children. A friend of mine has the same cylinder, so I thought it must have sold fairly well. As far as I know, most kiddy records were sold at cheaper prices than their adult equivilants, or at a reduced size anyway. I bet Edison didnt sell these for any less.I have about 200 kids discs, but in almost 30 years of collecting- Ive yet to come across any doubles of records I already have.
BTW; which on-line site? U of C?
