You might try putting the mechanism in the freezer overnight, this might help in freeing up the shaft. I would avoid any attempt to hammer the shaft out for fear of breaking
the stanchions. I have used a drill and a smallish bit to slowly break down the bearing, they are widely available and only a few bucks.

I finally got an O reproducer for my Edison Standard D. I am amazed to discover that 2 minute black wax Edison cylinders sound better than the later dubbed Blue Amberols now that I can hear them on the larger Diaphram offered by the O. It is a shame that their are so few reproducers that let us really enjoy how well the 2 minute cylinders sound. It seems that cylinder quality just collapsed after Edison became obsessed with disc machines.

Blue Amberol 3639 recorded July 16, 1918 diamond disc matrix 6287, b side. The disc master was rejected and no disc was issued. The cylinder, dubbed from the disc master, was released in Feb 1919. Data from Edison Blue Amberol Cylinders, by Allan Sutton. Hope this helps jeeprod

I have 2 Phonograph co Opera machines, both with broken reproducers. Does anyone out there know of anyone who might work on these, or, better yet, since there are hundreds of orphaned US phonograph co machines lacking reproducers, if anyone is planning to try to get some clever machinist to make some up? I googled this machine, and read a several year old post in another forum about this possibility. These are awesome machines, but they have been silent for decades. Thanks for any comments or advice. Isabella, many Edison machines have a tensioning device under the bedplate that gently moves the motor away from the bed thus putting tension on the belt. It is about 3/4 inch around surrounded by a spring. I have had very good luck with the rubber belts I see on Ebay for about 12 bucks. Jeeprod

I have happened on a hoard of MINT Columbia brown wax cylinders. They are mold-free, having lived out here in the desert for half a century at least. I played a few for a few seconds each on a Standard with a C reproducer. Have I harmed the records? Is it absolutely wrong to use a C reproducer on brown wax?

I have an Edison cylinder recorder, fresh from ebay. It appears to be complete except for the stylus bar and cutter. Can anyone direct me to a person able to repair it? I ahve never seen a recorder except in pictures, but I believe it is otherwise intact. Thank you

I am unhappy with my DD reproducer. It has a new stylus, new diaphragm and gaskets, but it blasts. I have had to stick some paper towels in the horn to tone it down. Are there any new school type gaskets that can deliver a cleaner sound? Who is the best person to send my reproducer to if I am not yet ready to do the work myself? Thanks. Rod
oh, the paper towels are in the horn because my A-150 does not have the tennis ball volume control.

Thank you, Keith. I have some heavier weights for a standard that I took to the lab at my workplace and weighed for balance, and installed them. The old weights were not positioned correctly, in spite of just having come back from the shop for a governor problem. The machine runs well now. Thank you for the tips on installation. Rod
