Thanks for the clarification and the extra info - I don't have that book; I am only just starting to learn so I don't know the answers to your questions either. Where would I look to be able to answer? I could take more photos.
We tried to open the back to take photos initially, by pulling on a little metal ring, but it seemed to be sealed either by rusty hinges (though they didn't look it) or maybe just the wood swelled over time. We didn't want to hurt it by forcing it open.

Ah, thanks! That's what I thought by just looking around, but I don't know anything about them.
So do you think someone must have hacked it together at some point? Or was it possibly sold this way?

Hey! I'm new here and I could really use the help of some experts in figuring out how much this Edison Disc Phonograph is worth for a friend of mine. It says A200 - serial number 4864, Blake and Burkhart Philadelphia - but it looks like this and there is someone on this board who has this as his avatar and says his is a C200: Thanks so much for any direction!!
