It occurs to me that I've never heard a recording by a black performer on any form of Edison. Granted, there are plenty of "coon" recordings; but are there any authentic blues or jazz recordings? Just picked up 51367-R, "Cold Weather Papa" by Emma Johnson (?). Not quite the same as the Clara Smith version on Columbia! Had never thought about this before. Thanks for any info!

Was playing 2-mins. tonight, & came across this un-announced one. The information on the cylinder of all my other black wax 2-mins. is: performer (tenor, band, etc.), title, and number. This one has: number, title, then performer (Jones, in this case). The cylinder material looks a little like the wax Amberols. Was this a trial run for the 4-min. wax? (# is 110362) Thanks.

Picked up 2 of my favorite DD's today that I thought might be in better shape than my copies: 51752, To-night's My Night With Baby & Poor Papa (Markels' Orch.) and 51405, Glad Eyes & Bring Back Those Rock-A-Bye Baby Days (Congo Four). "Tonight's...": I had C & got B. "Poor Papa": had B & got B. "Glad Eyes": had C & got B. "Bring Back...": had B & got A. It's amazing to me that Edison allowed the performers to approve a take to be released -- & then issued any of them when new ones were needed! Makes collecting a lot more interesting! Love the xylophone stuff on both "Glad Eyes", but "B" seems a little more energetic -- he was probably tired by "C"! The differences are subtle, but they're definitely there -- sometimes just placement of the instruments. What a great hobby! Would like to say how sorry I am to hear about Bob Johnson's (Mr. Victor's) death. He was a great source of information, parts, & phonographs. Always a nice guy to deal with. My best to his family.

Don't know where you're located, but I saw a mint BC-34 at "Time Flies Antiques" in Bloomington, IN, a few days ago. Price was $350, but probably negotiable. Didn't look refinished, but had a very shiny finish. There phone # is 812-332-5564, if you're interested.

I've been reading posts on here for a while, & it seems that many of them concern either C-250 or C-19 machines. Does anyone know how many of these models were made or what percentage of Edison's total DD-machine output they represent? When I first started collecting, I just ran acrosss S-19's. Were they the 2nd-most popular model? Just curious (George!). Thanks! Glad to be a new member.
