(J.M.J.) I got a Fox Phonograph company machine, nice cabinet, grill cloth, felt on turntable, had not run in over 40 years, so needs spring motor repair, 2 barrels, reproducer gaskets, a clean-up, etc.. Nice looking oak, should be good to have, altho an off-brand, for sure. I need information, because the only thing I have found identifing it is the nice logo inside the lid ie: FOX PHONOGRAPH COMPANY in fancy script. No patents, no dates, no address, nothing, on the cabinet, reproducer, or motor. I would like to know where it was manufactured, by whom, and about when. Does anybody know about this company, and maybe even more information?

(J.M.J.) After speaking to you Bill, I did go to photobucket. Here is a photo of the Fox phonograph as it stood in the old farm house where I found it.

(J.M.J.) I found out today, on another board, that my Fox Phonograph was manufactured in Chicago by Mandel Manufacturing Co. circa. 1916-1921, when they went out of business. However, Mandel Phono Parts Co. existed in Chicago until 1923, so it could have been bought in parts and re-assembled somewhere else? It had not been played for over 50 years, it was all intact, all original, repair was done to spring motor, one of the barrels needed a new spring, the sound box was restored with new gaskets, the cabinet cleaned with kotton klenser and wood protector, grill cloth still has to be replaced. Sounds good, give it a listen, let me know what you think. Sorry, but the posted Caruso I videoed yesterday @ 77.60rpm is a tad fast as the correct speed control should be 76.60rpm. Notice the volume control knob is at full and no "blasting" or "booming". I am pleased with the sound and because it also has a universal tone arm, that allows me to also play verticals on this machine.
