Hello,
I have got a few questions regarding my Edison model C reproducer stylus,
How can i clean the stylus, how can i remove filth? I don't want to damage the stylus.
I dont want to damage my cylinders, so the stylus must be clean and in good condition.
How can i check the condition of the stylus ?
I thought the stylus is supposed to look like a doorknop, is this correct?
Thanks in advance, Timo Hovenkamp

A bit of rubbing alcohol on a Q-tip should be all you need for a thorough stylus cleaning.

Dear Timo
As George says, a bit of alcohol should do the trick. A two minute stylus should look like a ball and not be chipped or have flat spots. Check using a powerful magnifying glass or a watchmakers' eyeglass (obtainable from eBay cheaply). If the playing surface of the ball is damaged it is possible to soften the adhesive using heat and rotate the stylus with fine tweezers, but this is tricky and I have never attempted it. I normally send the bar to Expert Stylus and they put a new sapphire in.
Cheers

The stylus on the Model C does indeed have a 'doorknob' shape (intended to provide better high frequency response).

Hello,
thanks for the help. I will try to clean the stylus with alcohol soon. Also, i will try to look at the stylus with a magnifying glass.
