I need a replacement rod, for my lift arm, since mine snaped, while trying to remove the horn, from the motor.
Needless, to say I am not, going to attempt any repairs to any of my machines. As long as they run, why mess with them.

Well I'm not exactly sure. After I removed the whole moter asembly and horn, following Georges instructions. I was atempting to remove the lift rod. However I did not know about the pin in the handle, or I missed that, and I missed the nuts, that hold the rod in place. Some where along the line, when I got the rod free, sort of, I noticed there was a clean break, becuse I must have pulled the thing aprt a little too hard, and it snaped. I did manage to get everything back together, and it does run. Excpet now the reproducer is a bit off balance. Plus with it being broke, I really had to push everyhting back so that I could get the mechisium to work. Which is does now, aside from being off balance.
Basicly, I have no idea what I was doing. So now I need to find a new lift rod, to replace the broken one. As far as the machine goes, as long as it still works, I am not going to mess with it. I will just lubericate and greas everything, and if something eventually does go wrong, I will find a pro, close by to do the work.

Dang Paul! Snapped the lift rod? Do you lift weights? I'm so sorry that happened. I'll help you look for another. Bill, do you know which rods are interchangeable among models? Luke W.

Paul,
If your machine isn't set properly you may end up ruining your Diamond Disc and your stylus. can you post a photo of what you damaged?

Well, that might be a bit hard too do J. At the moment, I have no batteries for my digital cammera. Plus I would have to tke the piece out that broke.
The metal rod that hleps to raise and lower the reporducer snaped clean in half. So I am unable to raise and lower the reproducer. I was able to put it back sort of, but it just keeps slipping.
I think what happend, was years of that thing being lifted, and turned, and it just weakend over time, and when I tried to remove the horn, it just gave way. Made a clean cut too. I never thought a piece of metal could break like that.

Paul -- Are you talking about the handle that you raise and lower to raise and lower the reproducer . . . is that what broke? I can't imagine that you broke the horn support rod (the part below the raise and lower handle that holds the horn and rotates in the socket on the floor of the horn compartment). Luke W.

No not the handle, the actual horn support rod, that rasies and lowers the horn, and reporducer, and rotates the horn. The rod itself has snaped clean in half.

That is amazing. Hey Paul, you need to find a copy of 'Barbara Frietchie" on BA. It is a recitation of John Greenleaf Whittier's poem -- set in "Frederick town". But you probably already know that! Luke W.

Paul, I did these up for you. What part was it that actually broke? I got numbers four and five reversed from one photo to the other, but it's the same dashed part anyway. Did one of the welds were the rod connects to the horn give way? Regards, J.

LOL J.
It's number 3, it actually the inner rod that snaped. I just got an email from George, and he said, " Sounds like the lift assmebly broke" Said this was not uncommon, as this was a weak spot in these.

Paul,
All I can say is wow! That surprises me. That doesn't look like a weak point at first glance. I was thinking one of the welds at the horn itself had let go. Is it a separate part that you can easily replace?

It should be, I just need to slide it out. It's an inner rod, that runs to the lift handle, which is encased, in a hollow tube, which is attached to the horn. There are a couple of small nuts and a few screws that need to be removed. I think the reason why it snaped, was from years of use.
