I'm new to this forum, but I also belong to the talking machine forum, I'm looking for info on a recent purchase I made. I purchased a W-19 William & Mary DD ser# 14871. It has a beautiful walnut cabinet and is all original except for the DD reproducer I bought for it. I would like to know when it was made? I can't seem to find any info on it's age. It has a 2weight govener and does not have the 10 & 12 inch buttons. Thats about all I know, other than it has a 2 spring motor. Thanks for any help. Gene

Well:
As the designation suggests, the W-19 was introduced in 1919 as a continuation of the previous W-250 model. It was available in the Edison catalogues until August 1927.
According to Frow, cover locks on the cabinets were phased out around November 1920; around December, silk backing was furnished on the grilles.
Unfortunately, no comprehensive list of serial numbers and manufacture dates is known to exist for Diamond Disc machines, as opposed to the cylinder machines…
The absence of the buttons *might* date the machine before 1922, when they were first introduced; but that is uncertain; they *might* have been discontinued between that time, and the introduction of the LP attachments in 1927...

Thanks Bill for the info, that helps me out alot, I kinda thought that W-19 was some indication as to the date, so I can assume that mine was produced somewhere between 1919 & 1921. Gene
