That is correct it will not wind up. When it is cranked up, the drum that holds the spring rotates but it does not wind up.

Haven't seen a post recently so I guess I'm on my own. Think I can figure out how the spring housing comes off.

Ok , so here I am, the spring housing is open, and this is what I see. The spring looks undamaged but I see no way to connect it to the spindle. Am I not seeing something?

So the next problem is the lever/gear stop that prevents the spring from just unwinding is worn. Where is a reliable parts source?

Try George Vollema at Great Lakes Antique Phonograph (victroladoctor.com): he usually has a lot of good original parts.

Have had my machine up and running now for a month, we enjoy it completely. Will be putting together a free souced chilton like manuel with lots of photos and descriptions from what I learn. When it's ready I'll post back so I can get some feedback.
