I bought Edison standard phonograph Model E through ebay.
But the bottom part of wooden box is broken. I'd like to buy the wooden box in ebay.
Are the wooden boxes of Model B, C, D in same size?
Thanks

Hi Tony. From your description, it sounds like you are talking about a Tall style case. Could you post a photo of what you have? Thanks! Martin

Hi Tony. Thanks for the photos. That is a Late style case. Over the years, collectors, dealers and restorers have swapped out cases on machines, so it's best to talk about the style of case rather than the model type. The Model B machines were pretty much always in Tall style cases (there may be an exception or two at the very end of production). Model C and D started in Tall style cases and ended up in Late style cases. Model E and F were pretty much always in Late style cases.
That's too bad about the back side of your machine. Do you still have the pieces? It might be repairable, believe it or not. If the case is original to the machine, then a repaired back would be preferable to a swapped-out case. If you need help with it, let me know. The fix may be easier than you think.
Regards, Martin

Were it mine, I'd probably try to glue it with a polyurethane glue like Gorilla Glue. I'd get painter's tape near the broken edges to limit the amount of glue I'd have to clean off. I'd put a layer of wax paper over it and then a small board or block over that (to spread the force of the clamp). Then I'd clamp it overnight. When it was all dry and the polyurethane all bubbled-up, I'd carefully trim it all back with a fresh single edged razor blade. After that I'd see what little bits I'd need to fill or color to make it match the finish. I'll be you can even straighten the hinge to be useable again. Again, good luck with this. I'd like to see a photo of your results. Regards, Martin

Oh...That looks like a new fresh break due to the "fresh" look of the broken wood... Did the damage come from shipping??? What a bummer! As Martin said, Later Edison Standard Model "D" cases will be the same as the "E" and "F" Model cases. ) Tony K Edison Collector/Restorer
