Hi everyone....I am a new proud owner of an Edison B Model phonograph...I am new at this and hope I joined this great forum ok....I have picked up alot of information on this machine working with the C Reproducer the past few weeks since having this machine...I got a couple of Gold Molded 2 min cylinders in bad shape that has some mold but generally dirty...I want to clean them up somehow to maybe try playing them, but I don't want to damage the expensive C Reproducer...I don't care if I lose the bad dirty cylinder if I try playing them...I am concerned on damaging the C Reproducer in the process...Can something like this damage the reproducer?..thanks everyone

The sapphire styli are pretty durable. Check the tip under magnification to ensure it's not chiped. It should look like a nice round old fashioned door knob. Your records will probably sound horrible, but your stylus should be fine. Clean records first with alcohol on cotton balls to make sure they are are no debris in the grooves. Don't put alcohol directly on the records. Dry thoroughly before playing.

Alcohol works great on Diamond Discs, but I wouldn't use it on black wax. Here's a link to an earlier thread on this: edisonphonos.proboards.com/thread/1648Obviously, it probably won't be a huge loss if the moldy cylinder gets damaged, but I suspect that alcohol will affect the wax. Good luck with your machine and welcome to the affliction! Martin
