I'm new here and new to phonographs. I have a Edison Home Model A and I have learned that it needs a new spring, if I am understanding right it comes with the gears since they look to be pressed on. These are either hard to come by or I just haven't found the right place to ask yet. Thanks in advance for any help. I also see that the month and year they were made can be found and it would be interesting to have that info also. My serial number is H35102.

Hello Tonya, Your Home's serial number indicates it left the factory about October 1900. Your machine is often called a "suitcase Home" by collectors because it's in the early cabinet with four clips to secure the lid. Mainsprings are readily available, and can be installed in your spring barrel by any of the following suppliers (in no particular order): wyattsmusical.com/www.victroladoctor.com/Ron Sitko 56 Church Hill Road. Waterford NY 12188 Telephone (518) 371-8549 (No web address. Call weeknights after 7pm Eastern.) victrolarepairservice.com/As a newcomer to antique phonographs, I'd encourage you to visit the Antique Phonograph Society web site: www.antiquephono.orgThere are lots of articles there geared to newcomers in the "Introductory" section under the "Articles" tab. You will even find a photo of an early Home similar to yours in an article titled Encountering Antique Phonographs. You can even ask questions on the "Contact Us" page. Best of luck, George P.

Thanks George, so happy to get some answers! I need the whole housing with the spring and gears. The big gear that is used to wind it is bad and I have no way of getting those pieces apart. I did file the bad tooth off enough to get it wound and running but it is not strong enough to play.
