Can someone please let me know at what point during the wood refinishing process do you apply the decal. I am using the water transfer decals.
I have stained the case and now I'm wondering do I apply the decal before applying shellac or do I apply shellac first then apply the decal and then more shellac on top? I have tried applying the decal after the shellac and I get a milky background under the decal.
Or does anyone recommend using something other than shellac that might worK better?
Thanks in advance...

Personally, I would apply the decal before the first coat of shellac.

You can find detailed instructions on how to apply decals on phonodecal.com. He suggests to apply the decal after the cabinet has been finished. Andreas

A lot of phonograph restorers apply the decal before the last two coats of shellac...
You can always send an email to Wyatt Markus at the Talking Machine Forum (TMF) website...and see what he would do. Wyatt does some masterful restoration work.
