I am going to break down my amberola 30 over the weekend. I just got it. Giving it a good cleaning. It was over wound when I got it. I started cleaning and lubing and it started up and ran through the reserved power on the spring. Now when I wind it it clunks every few cranks. And won't wind the spring. It's either in dire need of a cleaning or it needs to be replaced. Anyone have an idea?

Did you clean and re-lubricate the mainspring as well? If you haven't you should: that is a basic part of any restoration.
It sounds like the mainspring is either unhooked or broken at the outer end. If it's merely unhooked, you can remove the spring, reconnect the end, and wind it back in (after cleaning and regreasing). If you're not confident enough to to this - working with mainsprings can be risky - you can send the barrel off to a good restorer, who will do it for you at a reasonable price. Check the "Talking Machine Forum" for a list of resources.
If the mainspring is broken, your best course is to replace it: see the site mentioned above.
Best of luck! BillS
