Bill, Finally got around to these-They were gone. Sorry I missed them! You think this is due to the problem Dan was talking about? Regards, J.

John, I emailed you a copy of Walter Van Brunt's "Let me call you sweetheart." B. A. Rolfe's "Bye Bye Blackbird" is available at the site below: www.aardvarkmastering.com/edison.htmI can also email you Bennie Krueger's rendition of "BBB" if you'd like. Unfortunately, I don't have an MP3 of the Golden Gate Orchestra's "Charleston." It's available at the Redhotjazz site under "California Ramblers." However, the last time I checked, the song was not available in its entirety. Rocky

Bill,
Truly superb! Thanks! Let Me Call You Sweetheart still wasn't working, but Rocky had sent it along to me. As much as I like my hot fox trots, I think that's my favorite of the three. It's such a sweet song. ;D
Regards, J.

Do you know personnel on the Golden Gate Orchestra "Charleston"? Darned if that doesn't sound like Trumbauer on C melody sax and Adrian Rollini on bass sax! Plus a couple of other familiar-sounding players I dare not mention for fear of ridicule. Could it be.....?
BTW, aside from a little skip at the beginning, my PowerMac G4 (OS 9.1) had no problem with the databus link.

Henry, I believe at the time of this recording(4/25), the band consisted of Bill Moore & Frank Cush on trumpet, Lloyd Olsen on trombone & Freddy Cusick & Adrian Rollini in the reed section and was led by Ed Kirkeby. They were actually the California Ramblers and used this pseudonym, and I believe most of the early Golden Gate recordings were done by them. The later records using the Golden Gate name were done by other artists such as Harry Reser & Vincent Lopez. Bill

Thanks, Bill. I should have checked the Bix discography at www.bixbeiderbecke.com/ before I jumped to conclusions. At least I got Rollini! BTW, is there a source you could point me to for these personnel listings? BTW, I knew the trombone player, Joe Ortolano, in Vincent Lopez's Orch. when they played at the Hotel Pennsylvania, IIRC, in the late '50s. It was on Seventh Ave. across the street from Penn Station in NYC. I was just a teenager at the time, studying trombone. Mr. Ortolano was a nice guy; he played a solo at our church one Sunday!

The Golden Gate Orchestra generally recorded some snappy dance tunes. However, their "Charleston" is the most sedate vintage version of the song that I've ever heard.

Rocky, I thought so too. I guess 'cause it's four minutes long, they didn't want to wear the dancers out. ;D ............................ It's still great! Regards, J.
