Vess Ossman was definitely a stellar banjo player. I've picked him up on Edison, Columbia, Indestructible and U.S. Everlasting over the years and the only player that rivals him is Fred Van Epps in my opinion during that time.

Yes, Ossman was actually called "The Banjo King" in his day, I have an early Victor Monarch of him playing "Yankee Doodle" and it is announced "...as played by the Banjo King Mr. Vess L. Ossman". !
He lived a great deal of his life kind of near here, in Hudson NY.
Always been one of my favorite banjo players as well!
