Gents & Lady, I wasn't sure where to put this so I figured here was the best spot. What is/are the oldest Disc Records/Diamond Discs/Cylinders in your collection? I don't have a discography for my DDs yet so I don't know about those & I only have two cylinders (that are in one piece ) :Columbia 802 "That's Why I Never Married" Roberts & Columbia Indestructible 4min 3001 Band "American Patrol" Both have rusty cores so they probably aren't even playable anymore But I just got two goodies today My oldest disc records yet: 1901 I believe. This one has a brass grommet around the spindle hole & the divot in the back for the pin on some early turntables. 1904 I think, and it's announced! my only announced record so far. They are both 7" records. Great Honk, they look so small! Regards, J.

John, congraulations on the find. Aren't these very old records cool? Also, Victor dropped the spoken announcement some time in 1903. My guess is that your copy of the recording on the Victor record was printed a few years after the record was initially released.
The Columbia quartet record looks interesting. I assume it has an announcement. What does the annoucement say? Does it include the words "vocal quartette"?

Great records John. The columbia sounds interesting. My oldest cylinder is No.154 "Morning, noon and night in Vienna" which was released between Jan'96 and May'99 My oldest disc would be one of my recording angle G&Ts, probably from around 1905. I dont have a discography for these either.. My oldest diamond discs are No.50198 "I want to go back to Michigan" by Billy Murray & recorded in Oct 1914, and No.80066 "Ben Bolt" by Eleonora De Cisneros and recorded on 11th April 1911, though they are both in the cover design for 1915. If you can read winzip files, you might be interested in this- www.truesoundtransfers.de/disco.htmOnce you download the selected file, you just do a search for the record number, and it will tell you the recording date etc of all your DDs. There is also listings for Edison and Edison Bell cylinders, Zonophone, Odeon and a couple other record labels. Its great!
