Folks, I picked up my "new" Columbia K-2 today. Brother, is that motor different than a Victor! It seems much more like a clock than a phonograph. The motor is good, in fact it looks freshly serviced. the cabinet is a bit worse than I thought but it's complete, even got the key. And all the albums were full. almost all twenties stuff, only one album, I think, with newer stuff. I haven't had a chance to got through them yet but the ones I looked at look in excellent condition. I saw at least two Flag labels in there. I need so help figuring out how to dis-assemble the tonearm-HELP! Also anyone have a copy of the instruction manual for a K-2? Regard, J.

Forgive my ignorance John, but what is a k-2 like? Is it an upright or console. I've searched the net, but cant find any info. What sort of era are they? Viva-tonal, Plano-reflex or earlier? All I get when I do a search is snow boots and universities

Thanks Bill. I haven't seen very many columbia's in my travels! I think I've seen more cylinder machine than disc machines out here.

All I get when I do a search is snow boots and universities Shane, He's an old advert image from the back of a 1921 Columbia Christmas catalogue that I just got. Gad, I'm starting to collect ephemera too! It's a sickness! As I, once again forgot to bring my camera downstairs to take some shots before I brought the machine upstairs, and my parlor currently looks like some sort of ancient, abandoned phonograph show-room run by the Collyer bros., the e-Bay listing will have to suffice for photos of mine. K-2Ain't no nuthin' to 'pologise fur, Shane, There's dash little out there on Columbias. I know next to nothing about 'em myself. I have to track down that Columbia book. I'm sure there's many a Victor expert out there who's lost with a Columbia I wish some kind soul would do the Columbia version (& Edison version ) of The New Victor Victrola Page. That would be a boon to us all! Regards, J.

I couldn't agree more John- and a HMV page would be good as well. Although the book C. Proudfoots working on should cover all the HMV stuff. Im only hoping he covers the "Australian only" models too! He's currently looking into sales figures over here, so I'll keep my fingers crossed. Thats a mighty fine looking upright! Lucky to get a "free" copy of the manual too. At least the ephemera doesn't take up room!
