Did the Edsion Company produce, more 2 minute cylinder phonographs, then the 4 minute Amberol phonogrphs? The reason why I ask is, because, I find more 2 minute phonogrphs, then I do the 4 minute Amberols. What is even stranger, I tend to find more 4 minute Amberol and Blue Amberol Cylinders, then I do the Gold Moulded ones. Finding the Brown Wax Cylinders, was just a fluke. BTW: This same topic is on the Old Time Victrola Music Message Board.

Hi Paul,
The answer would be yes. 4M Amberols(1908-12) were only around for approx 4 yrs until superceded by the BAs in 1912(thankfully!) They were troublesome from their inception and have only become worse over time (their fragility.) When the 4M records came about, Edison offered kits to upgrade the 2M machines as well as new machines that played the new wax Amberols. These appeared in 1908, usually starting with the D suffix(combo models) and some models were made up to the G suffix(4M only). By 1913, basically all outside horn machine production ceased as Edison was pushing the new Amberolas and the BA cylinders. You will probably find BAs more frequently than the others due to their construction as well as the long period of production (1912-29).
