My spring appears to be broken, ratchet doesn't stop crank from turning either direction. I can't unscrew handle, have tried vise grips on shaft but I'm chewing the shaft. I need to get the handle off to repair unit. Help!

Try penetrating oil, then gently tapping the winding shaft repeatedly with a small, light hammer. Same principle as tapping on a tight jar lid with a knife. Vibration is the great loosener! If that fails, clean the oil from the shaft and heat the shaft gently -- and from a distance -- with a propane torch (don't use MAPP gas -- too hot! Good luck!

Luke,
Any idea why a crank would stick like this? I have seen pics of this machine and it is in great condition. I almost wonder if for some reason the crank is glued in place!
