Tim, nice find!! Unfortunately, the Goodwill and Salvation Army around here no longer take 78s. I do remember years ago though when you could paw through boxes there and turn up some pretty good stuff.

Yes that is a interesting find.. I have a copy somewhere if I didn't sell it off a few years ago, not sure.. As to the Salvation army, that was one of my favorite haunts when I was young. I spent many a day going through them in those days. The odd thing is we have a small salvation army store in a little nearby town.. The still take the 78's.. I noticed some really mint albums there one day and so I ask the woman how much the records were. She said, " there 10 cents a record".. That is exactly what they were 50 years ago! I couldn't believe it.. I had a huge stack of perfect albums for less than 5.00. Yesterday I found some rather interesting things at a local Catholic Charites store, they were supposed to be 1.00 and were on sale for 25% off. I had a number of them and the price they charged was way under even that, so I don't know how they were figuring them.. Today I went to a auction and came home with about 70 78's from the mid twenties to the mid thirties.. 12.00 for all and they are in quite good condition for around here.. They sold a small upright victor with a exhibition sound box and I was rather surprised when it went for 240.00. I would have guessed much less, but you never know. It was pretty good, but had some wood issues on the trims and lid.

Truthfully, I just put that record on Internet Archive this morning, and tonight is when first logged in and browsed this forum. Very weird. I like that record as a curiosity. I found my copy for 50 cents last year, and had no idea it was anything notable.

I just got one of these too. Any idea when they were offered? Mine doesn't have any talking, just songs on both sides. The sales pitch is of much more interest. There must have been several different titles offered.

MT, your pic shows just how much my digital camera leaves to be desired.

Gents, There were at least three different Columbia demo disc over the years IIRC. One with an oversized label on one side, one with the "flag label" for 25ยข and this one. I know I have the other two-I don't think I have this one-seem to keep just missing it on the Bay IIRC. Fun records. BTW nice sleeve there MT! Regards, J.

The one pictured is the one I have. Don't recall ever seeing the other two, but now that I know they're something to look for, perhaps I'll run across them.

Do these not have the announcer telling about the "double disc records" on one side or at the beginning? I had several of them and see them now and then. I wasn't aware they made three different ones, but wouldn't be surprised.

Wolf, Here's a couple of photos of the "flag label" one. Columbia 1S The photos aren't the greatest-I banged 'em out quickly. The Lewis side is the copper color of standard popular issues and the Hackett/Seidel side is the gold color of the serious or more upscale issues. I have the other but I haven't the faintest idea where it is right now-sorry. Larry, this one doesn't have any announcement but the large label one does-there's a talk and musical demonstration on the side with the oversized label, Henry Burr sings a quaint number on the other. I've hesitated 'till now, but you can here it here: Good Night, Little Girl, Good Night The lecture follows a short musical interlude. Regards, J.
