I share that view but should we be saying it IS rather than WAS? I would look at it this way until we have reason to believe otherwise. Of course, I have not been the one in contact with ProBoards as I am not the admin. Hopefully they sort this out; if not, we can migrate elsewhere if need be. Has everything really been wiped out completely on TWO totally independent message boards? If so, there might be an argument for providing a forum within one's own private website away from Proboards altogether to prevent this happening again? ProBoards does not delete everything when they deactivate a board from what I understand. It is all still on the server, it is just not accessible to the members and admin of the board. So, as long as ProBoards determines that the TMF is not in violation of the terms of service (which I would assume should be a given), it would be reactivated. I wish I knew how long this will take, though. If I have to, it would be very easy for me to set up any one of a few different message board systems on one of my web servers, and we would only have to answer to that evil Mord Eth guy. ;D I had offered to do this when we started the board, but the idea was that the membership is used to ProBoards, so why switch services if they have to get used to a whole new board system? I think it should be all set now. That was my fault. John, I can confirm that as of just a few minutes ago it still requires a password. — MordEth

I hate to be the dope here, but I don't seem to be able to access the posts there. I registered, but I get a message saying: To view or post in this forum you must enter its password. What am I not doing correctly?

What am I not doing correctly? 3victrolas, John apparently failed at removing the board password. Hopefully he will get a chance to remedy that soon. I have not had a chance to talk to him yet, so I cannot give you any idea of when that will be fixed. Hopefully ProBoards will investigate quickly and determine that the TMF is not in violation of any Terms of Service, and it will be quickly reactivated. I expect this to be the case, but I do not know how long they will take to look into it. — MordEth

I don't understand the justification for shutting down "The Talking Machine Forum," which is NOT in violation of ProBoards Terms of Service (TOS). Is it their procedure to close down a board in order to conduct an investigation? Or would they shut down a board permanently so as to wash their hands of a controversy?

Rocky I don't think anyone really knows what is going on at the moment. I guess we have to wait until we get news from John. I would think once things are actually looked into, they would put the board back up.

At least This one is still here... maybe Proboards is too much hassle? Anyone ever worked on IPB?

*sigh* IMHO, this is just disgusting, and there should have been NO reason for taking down John's board. I agree that ProBoards is "familiar" and therefore was a good choice, but IF ProBoards is just reacting without proper justification (no idea, nobody seems to know the whole story), then I'm sure it will just be restarted elsewhere. As a disclaimer, I'm just acting on emotion and disappointment; I have no facts. Scott (MT Phono) said: My thoughts exactly. Perhaps this wouldn't happen if we were into needlepointing or quilting, instead? j/k Oh, no! Not HIM! That's a fate worse than d Eth! Bill

I requested the status of both message boards at ProBoards support site.

I think we all just have to be a little patient & wait to see what happens. I also think it might be a good idea not to mention the "D" word here if we can help it. I would hate to see this board under attack or deleted, due to a certain Pinocchio. There's nothing stopping us from posting here, and continuing to enjoy our phono discussions. Matt's provided area's for non-Edison related items, and you'll find this board just as enjoyable & sensibly moderated as John's. The whole situation has left me very angry & disappointed, and I'd love to write pages about how I feel, but it's not really fair on Matt, or any of the members here to use this forum to let off steam. Anyway, just be careful what you write before hitting the post button, and lets try not to let it interfer with the enjoyment of our hobby. Just my 2 cents worth

Well, I went to the new, new board and found that it was password protected......I guess we will have to wait and see what happens with the TMF. RJ

I doubt it will take long for John to sort out the password protection issue, but I'm guessing because of all our time differences, that John is probably due to get out of bed anytime soon

Glad to see my friends from the other boards didn’t completely disappear. I actually forgot I was a member of this board. I’m going to be p*ssed if I have to repost all of my links from John’s new board. I feel like we’re on the underground railroad. Dave (aka discman)
