Hey folks,
Frow's DD book describes the bedplate for the early A-200 as having "decorated corners". Would anyone know what this means or looks like?
Thanks much.

Much like the corners on a Triumph. When applied to the brown motor plates of the A-series Disc machines, these gilt corner decorations had a black background. It's pretty subtle, though, so applying good Triumph corner decorations would serve the purpose.

Hey Gramophoneshane
You wouldn't by chance have a close-up of what the glass drawer pull knobs on the A-200 should look like, would you? The one I'm restoring has definitely had the knobs replaced at some point. I can't locate an original A-200 to compare.
Thanks.

It's a big one. Unfortunately I sold mine years ago without taking pictures of it. Dumb. Also note that Shanes's pictures of the bedplate are correct except that if your's is Mahogany, the base paint should be maroon, not brown, at least mine was.

Thanks. Mine is oak, so brown would be right for it. I'm also assuming that the knob for the rear access door to the motor would have also been glass to match the front. Do you remember from yours?
Hopefully, someone else has an original to confirm and report here. Thanks everyone.

I'm not sure if the type of wood determines the color of the bed plate. I had an A-200 ten yrs ago in mahogany and the bed plate was the typical brown found on Operas, Amberola Vs and IIIs, as well as the A/B-250. I notice that the A-200 on ebay also has the brown bed plate. As V says, the rear door found on the early machines had a recessed ring pull type for accessing the cabinet from the back. Is your particular machine missing the rear access door and is there no trace of paint anywhere on you bed plate to determine the color?

Bill,
My machine has the rear access door, but someone along the way had replace both the front drawer pull and the rear access door with brass pulls. The Frow reference alerted me that at least the front drawer pull was originally glass. Interesting that Edison would not have been consistent between the front and the rear---probably cost consideration.
Regarding the bed plate, again someone along the way has painted (poorly, I might add) the bedplate black. As I start to clean it up, I'll be careful to look for traces of the original color.
I'll contact V directly for a look at the rear ring pull. Thanks for all the help.

John,
The ring pull sits fairly flush to the surface of the door, probably to allow the machine to be placed closer to the wall. The glass pull would have protruded quite a bit, not to mention being in jeopardy of being broken. If V is unable to put his hands on pix of his, I can supply ones from my 1-A and III.

Edit: John, I wouldn't be surprised if you found remnants of the brown bed plate. From what I've seen over the years, this was a very weak coating that didn't stand the test of time as evidenced by all the peeling I've seen. From what I have discerned, this was a heavily tinted shellac that the bed plates were done with.

Thanks for the reply. I would very much like to see your pictures of the ring pull, if not too much trouble. Low and behold, when I popped off the turntable, I find patches of brown underneath.
Thanks.

John,
I sent you a PM the other day with pix of ring-pulls from 2 of my Edison machines.
