Hello all I am a new member, just recently getting a C-250. My problem is when you release the lever for the turntable, which I think is a brake, you can hear a grinding noise before the turntable stops. I beleive it has the Duncan electrical brake as there is awire hooked up to the needle assembly and an old round battery in the compartment were the horn is. Can some one e-mail me a picture of what the brake looks like as I have no idea. My e-mail is davvalh@sbcglobal.net

I am not real up on those automatic stops, however under the turn table is the leather in the break mechanism? Or is it worn allowing metal to metal contact? That sounds like the issue to me but I recall a photo of one of those set ups somewhere lately and I don't recall that the break was exactly like the ones without the duncan stop?

The business end of a Duncan brake lever is very similar to the standard mechanical brake. If you hear a grinding sound, check to see how intact the felt brake pad is, and that the lever is not bent in such a way as to rub the turntable.

If your leather pad is missing or no longer useable, I put up a drawing on the Talking Machine site in the repair discussion area showing how I created one that works really well on the Edison. It takes a larger size around leather than most so the sewing machine type leather belting won't work for it. Here is a link to the discussion thread it was in: forum.talkingmachine.info/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1769Larry
