I use bees wax on all my machines, mostly because that was generally used back in the day, and it gives a long lasting water resistant sheen. It is harder work than many thinner modern waxes and polishes though. It's suitable for both wood & painted finishes. I also use Singer Sewing Machine Oil because the gears and bearings are similar to those found in a phonograph. I have read on an electric phono forum that 3in1 contains vegetable oils that go tacky over time, but I've never looked into the ingredience to varify this. I know many people do use 3in1 on their phonographs though, and they haven't had any complaints about it.

I have used Meguiar's car polish for the bedplates on all my Edison machines. It cleans off all the old grime and gives a stunning shine to the surface, whether it be black, maroon, or brown. For the gears, I use white lithium grease on the teeth, a few daubs spaced out on each gear. On the bearings, I use what Shane suggests and it works quite well. ONE caveat though, you should really remove all old grease and oil before applying any new lubricant by giving the motor a thorough cleaning by totally dissembling the motor. Marvel Mystery oil is also a lubricant that I have used in the past with good results on bearing and pivot points.
