I am experimenting with tinfoil phonographs. I know that Rene Rondeau offers tinfoil but there must be a cheaper way! Where do museums that constantly do demonstrations get the foil? Aluminum foil is of little use. Has anyone had this problem? The foil must be about 1.5 mil. thick. LEE

Reynolds Wrap heavy-duty aluminum foil is workable, but Rene's tin foil is heavier and more forgiving. I use the Reynolds when experimenting/adjusting a machine or shaping a stylus, but the tin foil is best for demonstrations.

I own a Kruesi replica made by Merik Stehlik and have used the heavy duty tin foil available in the grocer's as well with good results. The foil from Germany is more authentic to the original but the cost for dubbing around doesn't justify the price.

This is interesting, but I see that the posts are old. Anyone out there experimenting with foil these days? What machines are you using?
