Newbie here: I purchased a kit to upgrade my new Edison Standard Model B to a 4 minute machine. Anyway, the diagram that came with the machine and instructions is very small and honestly not all that clear. Does anyone have anything better that I could follow to do this? Maybe a youtube video or something? Help would be greatly appreciate.

hi there, A friend of mine gave me an old Edison GEM phonograph he inherited from his dad, asking me to have a look at it, as it didn't play. I've opened it, but there seem to be parts missing... also, it looks like someone in the past has already attempted to fix it (looks like a bad job). Now there's still one thing I can't solve... there is one wheel (the big wheel next to the spring) with another wheel and a sort of moving bent "pin" attached to it. the pin should "grab" into the smaller wheel (this one has angled dents). (hope I'm making snese here). anyway, this "pin" has broken and has previously been badly "fixed". it doesn't really grab anymore. Also it looks like something has been done to the form of it. anyway, here comes the question: would anybody here maybe know where to find a picture of this pin, or know what it's really called?

Your probably trying to describe the winding ratchet pawl. It's an arm which grabs onto a smaller stepped wheel which is directly adjacent to the spring gear. This part is required to stop the spring from unwinding as you wind the motor. Check with the phonograph parts suppliers. Wyatts: www.wyattsmusical.comAPSCO www.antiquephono.comSteve
