When you play a cylinder record should there ever be white shavings on the reproducer and some on the disc afterwards? If not, I might have a problem.

Any swarf (shavings) caused by the stylus on the Reproducer indicates a serious issue and you should stop immediately until the problem can be identified and corrected. Can you post photos of the machine and Reproducer and tell us what you are playing with this machine? There are any of a number of reasons that could be causing this, from a chipped or badly worn stylus to improper lateral movement of the stylus. An improperly adjusted Cygnet horn can ruin a record if it is bearing down too hard on the record surface, especially when using a Diamond B on a Blue Amberol record. These are just a few reasons that could cause what you are experiencing.
