I have an Edison model 30 that I play. I use the blue cylinders. Is there any way to also play the black cylinders??? I didn't know if the stylus or other parts could be swapped back and forth. Thank you

An Amberola 30 will only play Blue Amberols or other 4 minute celluloid cylinders, such as Indestructibles and US Everlastings.
It will *not* play 2 minute records of any kind or wax Amberols.

BillS is absolutely right. The Amberolas should never be used to play wax cylinders. It will destroy them! The two minutes will obviously track incorrectly but more importantly the heavier weight used on the Diamond reproducers will neatly remove any recording from a fragile wax Amberol.

Thanks for the help. We have only played the correct blue cylinders on our Edison Model 30.
We have bought cylinders at multiple auctions. Many times we got black cylinders in the mix. We have about 60 black cylinders at this point. Now...we either buy a second player that will play the black cylinders, or we sell them, or trade them for more blue cylinders.
Thanks again. Darry & Debbie

Sadly phonographs are like peanuts. You can't stop at one!
Good hunting

You could list your black wax cylinders on this forum or similar forums, there are several. Include the record number, song title and a photo. I am sure that people on here will trade you or purchase your 2 minute cylinders. Even though prices do not reflect, it is hard to find good, clean two minute cylinders out in the wild. Decent playable 2 minute Edison Gold Moulded cylinders, sell from $5.00-15.00 each, yes there are some worth more, and some worth less. In Illinois it seems in the last 3 years I have found NO playable two minute cylinders in antique shops, that is probably why I make new two minute cylinders.
