I am a beginner to collect cylinders. Recently I bought one cylinder in ebay as below.
The box is "Edison Standard Record' and the lid is "Edison Goldguss Walze"
Are they the matched original box and lid?
Any comment on this would be highly appreciated.
Thanks.

Hello Tony,
The box and lid don't match. Edison standard records are very different from Edison Goldguss walze records. Edison standard records and their boxes were introduced at the time the Edison 4-minute wax amberol was introduced, around 1908. Edison standard records are American. Edison Goldguss walze records are German Edison 2-minute cylinders. Edison not only sold cylinders in the USA, but also in Europe. Edison sold cylinders in Great Britain, France and Germany. The French cylinders were called Edison Moules sur Or records , and the German cylinders were called Edison Goldguss walze records. Both the cylinder brands were produced in the same time period as the American Edison Gold moulded records, c. 1901-1912.

Hi Timo,
I slightly have to correct you. The label and the way Edison named their product changed but the records itself remained the same no matter if they were US or European Gold Moulded (aka Goldguss) cylinders. But you are totally right that box and lid don't match here, as they are from different years ... see my reply to his other thread on this matter.
Cheers Helmut
