I posted this question a few days ago but got no response. I think my question may have been confusing. I'll try again. Does anyone know what years the single spring motor plates with oiling instructions in a diamond shape were used? See picture. All of my other DD's with single spring motor plates just have the TAE trademark signature in the upper corner, nothing else. Thanks, Jerry Watson, Charleston, WV Attachments:

It's unfortunate you're not getting responses: the site seems to have been mostly abandoned after a spammer invaded… :-(
What model phonograph is the motor in? The bedplate on my C-250 (late 1915) has the same decals; I believe they were first used on the type B motors since early 1915, although I do not know of the cutoff date. (Frow's book on the DD machines has a photo of an "A-85" from 1917: no decals are visible on the bedplate).
You may be able to date the motor approximately, by observing some of the details:
. What color is the pinstriping? On the less expensive models, silver was used after September 1915.
. Is there a drip pan under the spring barrel? This was phased out in February 1916.
. Check the horn support tube and its brackets: are they brass or iron? Brass was used before November 1915.
I hope this information proves helpful.

Thanks for the information. I have Frow's book, but didn't realize it had that information. I found it.
This motor is a single spring that had been adapted to a C-250 I bought last weekend. I have 3 C-250's and a W-250, non of which have these decals and of course they have two spring motors.
The pinstriping is gold. There is a drip pan under the governor, but not under the spring barrel. The horn support tube and brackets are iron. Based on this information, I think this motor dates from between November, 1915 and February, 1916.
I'm sorry to hear that not a lot of people are using this site. Everyone has always been so helpful.

Have found that the early type DD Bedplate that you pictured with stenciling and diamond shaped oiling instructions was used up until around the end of 1917. The cabinet should also have an aluminum ID dataplate with black background..which was the ealier type DD ID dataplate. When the ID Dataplate changed to Brass and dated with 1918 patent date. the bedplate changed as well..which wound up having NO Gold stenciling, and the bedplate was just all black with the TAE signature that continued to be in the upper right corner or quadrant of the bedplate. ) Tony K.
