I have an Edison cylinder recorder, fresh from ebay. It appears to be complete except for the stylus bar and cutter. Can anyone direct me to a person able to repair it? I ahve never seen a recorder except in pictures, but I believe it is otherwise intact. Thank you

Eric Reiss, in his "Compleat Talking Machine", gives instructions on how to make a recording stylus and holder.
The stylus thus described, although being of glass rather than sapphire, and flat ended rather than cupped, should be adequate for recording experiments.
If you can find a good gem shop with an experienced lapidary, it might be worth while to have them turn a small rod of artificial sapphire to the correct diameter (approximately .042"), and indent the tip…
