I've got a Home model A with a 2/4 minute conversion gearing common to Home models D & E. For as long as I've owned the machine, the 4 the conversion gearing has not seemed to work so that I can only play 2 minute cylinders.
I finally took it upon myself to get the gearing working, by disassembling the top works to see what's going on inside the conversion gearing, however I've run into some trouble (This is the first Home I've worked on). One of the two screws between the mandrel and the feed screw seems to be completely stuck in place (despite quite a bit of Liquid Wrench). I'm guessing both these screws must be loosened in order to remove the mandrel and thus free the feed screw and conversion gearing; but having not done this before, I'm wondering if this in fact is true? Or is there any other way I might get at the conversion gearing? Or am I missing something completely?
Any comments or suggestions are appreciated.

One screw holds down a collar which holds the feed screw in place. The other screw holds the main collar on the mandrel shaft. That's the one which needs loosening. Model A, B homes have an end gate, so, they do not use the model D mechanism, as they are for an open ended mandrel machine. Two things could be wrong. The gear on outer pulley may not be mating with the gear on the end bearing. Or, it may not be switching to four minuite. This may be caused by the two feed screw pins not mating with the slots on the inner pulley. Also, clean, well oiled parts is important, including the mandrel shaft, and, bearings. Hope this helps.
