Hi everyone, I have recently inherited a collection of phonographs and figured this would be a good place to share my grandfather's passion for these machines. I will add more links as I upload more photos of the other machines, but for now here are two of the uprights (there are 3 uprights and 12 other phonographs). Any information about these machines would be greatly appreciated, I know from my grandpa that these two are rare but not much else about them, specifically the one with the cylinder cabinet. I have some small black/brass ones that seem appropriate for the cylinder cabinet. The other 'misc' horns I have seem too big... Links: Edison Home Upright Edison Amberola B-III Thanks again for looking!

The machines you show are pretty interesting: a model B Home in a custom (Douglas?) cabinet, and an Amberola III: both desirable and fairly scarce.
Certainly the Home could use any of the black & brass horns; but upon close inspection, only the middle one seems to be an original. The others might be reproductions, based on the larger bell, and the lack of beading where the bell meets the cone. The other photos appear to be Victor wood horns: a smooth mahogany and an oak 'spearpoint' - both quite desirable.
Your grandfather seems to have had good taste in phonographs: it would be interesting to see the rest of the collection!

I totally agree. And, that spear tipped horn is a desirable Victor horn.

Thanks for all the feedback, It is really neat learning about these machines. I have done my own research on the more common models, but the large one with the cylinder cabinet was impossible. I did find a letter in it that says a similar one sold for 15k USD on EBay in 2003. What would this be worth today? Can anyone confirm this? It's just a handwritten letter, not a screenshot of the auction or anything...
I only have 3 Victors (Vic II with black/brass horn, Vic IV with black petal horn, and Victor Schoolhouse with oak horn) I guess the spear tip horn is something he just had on its own? It really is pretty, and the logo on it is perfect...
I will upload more pictures of the whole collection this weekend.

Well, that's not unlikely: the books I consult rate Douglas cabinet machines as "VR" (Very Rare): i.e., so few of them ever go on sale that it's hard to determine their market value. I do not know precisely what the state of the market is right now, but I am sure this phonograph would rate a reserve price in the mid four figures at least. BillS
