I have an edison standard machine, a recorder and a pile of blank cylinders. When I drop the recorder, the cutter is still about 1/8" above the blank an is obviously not doing any recording. I am completely new to recording. What am I missing? Does the recorder need to be adjusted? wrong machine? Any suggestions are appreciated.

Photos might help. Is the bottom part of the recorder dropping down properly when it's in position?

As memory serves, An Edison standard is really not an ideal machine for recording because the Standard does not have the Mainspring power to do the cutting as let's say an Edison Home does which has a much stronger mainspring for cutting... I highly suggest to you to watch the Cylinder recording Youtube! videos of "Benjamin J.", "The Victrola guy" as he records on different various Edison machines and can offer you valuable tips. He also records on Brown wax as well as Black wax and does his own shaving and re-using of old bad moldy cylinders as well. Tony K., Melbourne,Florida.
