I am repairing my A100 that has been in my family over 75 years. I’m trying to document its history for the next generation. The serial number is SM26845. Any help or information would be appreciated.

Congratulations on owning a family heirloom phonograph! I applaud your decision to document its history. Unfortunately, there are no detailed production records available for Edison phonographs, but here is what I found in a book about Edison Disc Phonographs from George Frow: The A100 Diamond Disc phonograph was made between mid 1915 and late 1919 and sold initially for $100. Over the years, the price gradually increased to $120. The A-100 was also called the "Moderne". Based on your machine's serial number and some vague sales numbers, I would estimate it to date from late 1916 or early 1917 and would have sold for $100. Here is a link to a Diamond Disc user manual which would have been delivered with your machine when it was new: www.nipperhead.com/old/ddisc.htmHope that helps Andreas
