Paul, You don't need to remove the horn assembly to take out the motor board. That is really better left undisturbed by someone who has never dissassembled an Edison (or any machine for that matter) phonograph. Here are the instructions on how to remove the motoboard from a C-19 that I posted for Sean a while back. It will be the same principle applied to your S-19. The instructions are the last post on the page and continue to the next. Bill edisonphonos.proboards46.com/index.cgi?board=ddboard&action=display&thread=1192367795&page=1

Yeah, George told me the same thing.
I also notice that when I play my cylinder machine, the motor is loud. Is this normal?
I thought, the ease of winding the machine, was from constant use, I never thought it could be some thing else. I figured since they all still run, I shouldn't worry too much, aside from the occasionl lubercation.
BTY: What about removeing the crank, without doing any damge?

Okay, here is someting I am trying to figure out. When I first wind up my DD, the handle turns easily. However, when I wind it again, I can feel a little more tension. It moves freely, but not too easily.
However, your right luke, I should have the motor looked at.

Well, I'm afraid I snaped the lift rod completely, I cna get it too move up and down, but now it's a bit off balance, and it will not fit back in properly. The machine is playing fine, and as too not cause any more damage, I am not going to attempt to do any repairs myslef, since I am no expert at this sort of thing. So I am now going to have to buy a new lfy rod from george to replace the one that snaped. I should just leave well enough alone. The machine plays sine, and I have no problems with the spring. I will have to find some one closer to help if I need any reapirs. Thanks again, for your help.

Paul, I'm not getting what broke on your machine. I suppose at this juncture, posting a picture of which pin to remove is moot, but this is the pin I was referring to. Bill

The metal rod, the connects to the horn, and lowers the reproducer to the turntable to play a disc. I must have missed the pin.

Are you sure that it just didn't pull out? They have set screws to hold them in place and that is where I would look, just above the horn.

The rod that snaped is an inner rod, that is encased in a hollow tube. Which has three small bolts to hold it in place, and a small screw clamp around the bottom, that hold the cable for the damper for the horn. The handle itself, is attached to the inner rod, with a tiny pin. Which I failed to remove. I unloosened the bolts from the outer tube, but missed the screws on the clamp. so when I went to slide the tube, the meatl rod gave way, and snaped in half. The rod also has a small notch running part if not all of the length of the rod. Since I did not remove the rod, I do not know. I am hopping George Valoma, might be able to find an inner rod to replace the one that snaped.
I should have followed Bills instructions, and left the horn inside, instead of removeing the whole thing. Although, thats not too say, the rod still would not have snpaed.

Okay, the rod did not snap, turns out it was cut to begin with. I thought the rod went all the way thoguh to the bottom, and unscrewed out. But, guess what? That is not the case, there are two seperate peices. What has now broken, is the steal spring, that slide underneath the bed plate, and pushes against the bed plate as the lift handle is raised and lowered.
The hard part, is putting it all back together, sinc eI did not pay attention, when I took it all apart, so I have no idea, how it all goes back together? I figured either George could fix it, or send me the part I need, and instructions on how to put it all back together.
