Hello all,
I am new to cylinder records but am looking for a cylinder of "The Star Spangled Banner". Any artist would be okay but if you happen to have one by the Marine Bard even better. If anyone has one available or knows where I could go to obtain one please let me know. I have several other cylinders I would like but this one is very important right now. Any help would be fantastic.
Thanks, Tim O'D

Do you need a two minute or a four minute cylinder?

The U.S. Marine Band recorded that on Edison 2M wax #10394. It is probably available on Columbia/Albany as well. On Edison blue amberol it was recorded as a solo by Thomas Chalmers, #2652. It is also present on several other BAs but is part of a medley of songs and also there is one that is a descriptive #2984 by Harry Humphrey but is more of a speech with background music. Hope this helps in your search!

You are correct Bill. It was available on Indestructible 2 minute no.1243 by Frank Stanley & 4 minute no.3467 by The Federal Band.

Thanks for confirming my suspicions, Shane. I have noticed that artists that weren't under exclusive contract for a particular company recorded the same material for others. For example, Frank Stanley also recorded that song for Edison on 2M #5004 in 1898, but that would pre date the Indestructible by several years so I guess that isn't a good example.

I wonder what Indestructible 82 is?? It's not mentioned in the Indestructible record list, and there's no double digit record numbers either. The first one starts at 472.
Edit: You must have left the "1" off Rocky :-) 821 is an Indestructible, which I missed in my search for the title, as it's listed as "America & Star Spangled Banner".

You're right, Shane! Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I corrected the serial number in the original post. The error is all the more egregious as I was there in the recording studio when the Indestructible Military Band made the recording. ;D Rocky

I have an extra copy of that Indestructible (#821) and if anyone is interested in the extra copy, Please PM me. I can post a sound file if you wish to preview it first. It's one of those two tune 2M cylinders with the dead spot between the two pieces.
