Hello, I am working on an S-19 that needs a lot of work and a few parts. The hand crank has rust covering part of it and the gold finish is being taken over by the rust. I had consider removing the rust, treating the metal with a anti rust primer and then painting it with gold paint. Now the gold paint is not the dollar store brand, I bought this to repaint an eagle on top of a flag pole so it does have some real gold in the paint. But I know that this paint is not the same as what is on the arm. Any advice on how to fix this from fellow members?
I'm still looking for fellow collectors in the SW Florida area.
Thank you Bill

Bill,
My chippendale had been in a basement for years and the gold on the turntable and other parts was in very poor shape and partly rusted. I removed all the old rust and paint and re-sprayed them with a gold by "Kills". I had a more expensive one by rust oleum but it just didn't have the right shade to blend.. Thats about as good as your going to get it short of re-plating. Some might not like it, but in order to get it to look at least presentable for the house I went ahead, it is a lot better than it was. The handle I didn't spray and much of the gold is gone on it too, I just gently cleaned it to save what I could of the gold on it and waxed it. I may eventually spray it to match, but not sure. If you look at the horn gold, it isn't quite the same as the turntable parts even at the start I don't think. The horn seems to be a more metallic finish? On the Orthophonics it is similar, the turn table is less shiny and a bit more of a dull gold, sort of sprayed look, where the arm is very shiny, but usually well worn. If you have a good gold that looks in the color range of the original I would go with it. At some point you may see a cheap gold turntable on ebay or elsewhere that will fill the bill also.
